What the rating record says today
The label on the listing is not written by the developer. Roblox keeps a separate age-recommendation record for each experience, and the listing shows what that record returns. For this experience it returned the following when it was read on 24 October 2026:
| Field in the record | Value on 24 October 2026 | What it settles |
|---|---|---|
| Rating name | Moderate |
The tier word the listing prints. It is not Minimal. |
| Minimum age | 16 |
Where the "16+" in Maturity: Moderate • Ages 16+ comes from. |
| Content descriptors | free-form-user-creation, presence: present |
The only descriptor on the record, and the closest thing to a stated reason. |
| Compliance API | followsComplianceApi: false |
The record says the experience does not route its user-made content through that filter. |
| Content restriction (listing field) | isContentRestricted: false |
A different field from the rating. The game is not flagged as restricted content; the maturity gate is the thing you meet. |
Two listings, two separate records
The rating above belongs to one experience, not to the name Makeup Mania. On 20 October 2026 the group opened a second public listing, and Roblox keeps a separate age record for each. Both were read on 29 October 2026:
| Field | Competition listing | All-ages listing |
|---|---|---|
| Listing name | Makeup Mania! BETA [MALE HEAD] |
Makeup Mania! BETA [ALL AGES] |
| Place ID | 117935850321807 | 128404538075564 |
| Created | 25 September 2026 | 20 October 2026 |
| Age record | Moderate, minimum age 16, free-form-user-creation |
Minimal, minimum age 0, all-ages-suitable-for-everyone |
| Players, visits, favourites | 864 · 47,060,720 · 175,212 | 812 · 1,280,081 · 7,636 |
| Players a server | 10 | 50 |
| What its description says | Create looks, style a character, compete in themed rounds, vote, earn rewards | FREEPLAY ONLY: create makeup looks and style your character |
| Game passes listed | VIP 399, Shape Stencils 199, Saved Looks — 3 Slots 149, Second Hair Slot 99 | VIP 399, Shape Stencils 199, More Saved Looks 109, Second Hair Slot 99, Liquid Highlight 40 |
Read the two rows together and the pattern is plain: the age floor is a property of one experience, and the group has now published a second experience built without the rounds that carry the descriptor. Its description says FREEPLAY ONLY and describes drawing looks and styling a character; it does not describe rounds, voting or rewards.
This page has not played a session in the all-ages listing, so nothing below describes its rooms, its tools or its shop from use. What it states is what the listing record, its descriptor and its pass list printed on 26 October 2026, plus the one thing both listings agree on: the creator is the group Make-up Mania! 409491256.
Why free-form user creation is the reason
Roblox names the descriptor Free Form User Creation (Present). The makeup you see in a round is not a set of pre-built faces: each player draws on the face with brushes during the 300-second styling window, and what lands there is that player's own drawing.
That is what separates this experience from a dress-up game where every outfit is an asset the developer uploaded. The face content is made at run time by whoever is holding the brush, so it cannot be approved before it exists. Those are the facts the record carries. What Roblox's moderation policy does with that fact is not published on any surface this page can read, so the short answer to "why exactly 16 and not 13" is the descriptor plus a policy decision that nobody involved has explained in public.
Two things follow for you as a player:
- The rating is about the drawing, not about the theme. A round about Goth or Fairycore is not what raises the age; the freehand canvas is.
- The number can move. A record driven by descriptors changes when the descriptors change, and this one already has. That is the next section.
What changed in October 2026
The same endpoint has been read five times for the competition listing this month, and the readings split cleanly:
- 11 October 2026:
Minimal, minimum age 0, descriptorall-ages-suitable-for-everyone. On that day the game carried no age floor at all. - 14, 15, 18 and 24 October 2026:
Moderate, minimum age 16, descriptorfree-form-user-creation. - 20 October 2026: the group published a second listing, and its record read
Minimal, minimum age 0, on 24 October 2026.
No reading was taken between 11 and 14 October, so the switch is bounded by those dates rather than timed to a day. What the readings do explain is the argument you may have seen in comments: creator videos from the week of 11 October carry titles like VIRAL "MAKEUP MANIA" Is Now For ALL AGES on ROBLOX?!?, and videos from the following week carry the opposite framing, MAKEUP MANIA IS BACK ON ROBLOX (16+ ONLY). Both were describing a real state of the record on their own day. Neither explains the change.
Nothing on either developer surface explains it either. The game description still ends with New content coming soon, and the group's announcement box was empty when it was read on 18 October 2026. Treat any single explanation you find, including the ones in video titles, as one player's account rather than an announcement.
What you see on your own screen, and what it means
The rating is checked against your account, so the same listing can present three different things. Only one of them means "check your age gate".
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The tile shows Unlock where Play should be | The game is visible to you and the maturity gate is stopping the join. On 18 October 2026 this is what a signed-in account marked Unchecked saw. | Confirm your account's age check, then the Allowed Experiences tier below. |
| The tile shows Play, and the game opens | Your account clears the gate. Nothing else is wrong. | Go straight to the first round tutorial. |
| You cannot find the game in search at all | On 18 October 2026 a signed-out session returned 40 games and not one of them was Makeup Mania, while a signed-in search returned it first. On 29 October 2026 the same unsigned request did return Makeup Mania! BETA [ALL AGES] third, so a logged-out browser shows the freeplay place and not the competition one. | Sign in, then open place 117935850321807, place 128404538075564 or the group 409491256 directly. |
| An error or a kick after you were inside | Not the age gate. The gate is decided before you join. | Rejoin through the place link and read the current status before assuming a removal. |
The order to check your account in
- Read the label on the listing, not a quote of it. The name now covers two places. For the competition rounds open place 117935850321807 and read the maturity line under its title, and you should see Moderate, ages 16+ while the record stays as it was on 24 October 2026.
- Check the account's age-check state. If your own profile wears an Unchecked badge, that is the layer the 16+ label is being compared against, and the tile will offer Unlock until it is resolved. Resolve it through Roblox's own account prompts; no third-party page can do it for you.
- Then check Allowed Experiences. In Roblox, open Settings > Privacy & Parental Controls > Allowed Experiences and confirm which tier the account is allowed. If that tier sits under Moderate, the experience stays closed even after the age check.
- Then use a direct route. Place ID 117935850321807 for the competition build, place ID 128404538075564 for the Freeplay-only build, or the Make-up Mania! group 409491256. This skips the search bar entirely, which is where the signed-out confusion starts.
If the account is under 16
There is no toggle, code or link on this site that lifts a maturity gate, and nothing here should be read as one. What used to be a dead end now has an official door: the FREEPLAY ONLY listing at place 128404538075564 carries a Minimal record with a minimum age of 0, read on 24 October 2026, so the 16+ tier printed on the competition listing is not printed on that one. The account's own Allowed Experiences setting still decides whether it may enter, and a guardian manages that setting.
Three things are worth knowing before you use it:
- It is Freeplay only. The competition rounds — theme reveal, 300-second styling, runway walk, star voting — live on the 16+ listing, which is what the rest of this site's guides describe.
- It is the same creator. Both listings name the group Make-up Mania! 409491256, so this is the developer's own build, not a copy riding the name.
- Its shop is a different list. Read on 24 October 2026, the all-ages pass list shows Liquid Highlight at 40 R$ and More Saved Looks at 109 R$, where the competition listing lists Saved Looks — 3 Slots at 149 R$ and no Liquid Highlight. VIP, Shape Stencils and Second Hair Slot appear on both at 399, 199 and 99.
If your account does clear the gate, the competition listing is the one with the rounds, and the first round tutorial is written for it.
What this page does not claim
- Why the record moved. Descriptor changes and moderation decisions both fit the readings; neither is documented in public.
- That 16 is permanent. The record returned all ages eight days ago. It can move again.
- What the Unlock button checks. The observation is specific: an account badged Unchecked saw Unlock. Which exact verification step clears it is described by Roblox on its own account screens, not here.
